Leadership

Pastor Mike was born in Greenville, SC but grew up in the Washington, DC suburbs in Virginia.  He graduated from Gar-field High School in 1971 and married Debbie Shepard in 1973.  Together they have two sons, two daughters-in-law and two grandsons.
Mike's education includes a bachelor's degree in theology from the Landmark Missionary Baptist Institute and a master's degree in theology from the Baptist International School of Theology.  He was also awarded the degree of doctor of sacred theology from the Baptist International School of Theology.
Mike has pastored churches in Arkansas, Maryland, Michigan, South Carolina and Virginia.  He has pastored First Baptist Church of Green Valley from 1989 to 2001 and from 2006 to present.
Mike enjoys being a pastor/shepherd of one of God's churches.  He also enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, working out at the YMCA, bodysurfing.

Glenn has been the worship leader since 2017 when him and his wife Debby joined FBCGV. He sees praise and worship as one of the most important things we can do as a child of God. He defines praise and giving glory to God for what He’s done and worship as giving glory to God for who He is.
The scripture tells us that our praise to God endures forever. (Psalm 111:10)
God commanded that we worship Him alone. He deserves our worship. (Psalm 29:2)
With that said, Glenn sees his responsibility to lead God’s people into His presence with praise and worship when we gather.
He has been married to his wife Debby since 1978. They have 3 children, Shannon, Shawn, and Sarah and 4 grandchildren, Joe Jr., Isabel, Aiden, and Jasmine.

Tommy & Danielle have been serving as Youth Leaders at Green Valley since 2020. They have been a part of the church since 2019. They have been married since 2013 and actually met at the same church camp as students that the church attends every summer. Our youth are the future of the church and our country, therefore they love serving in the youth group and seeing students grow in the Word and their relationship with God. Danielle's favorite verse is " I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." Psalms 139:14.

Katie and Timothy met while Katie was serving as a missionary in Myanmar in 2019. Timothy is from Myanmar and they met while he was finishing his Bachelors of Theology at a Bible college in Yangon. They moved to the United States in 2020 and got married in 2021. Katie has been a member of FBCGV since she was 8 years old. While in college at Shippensburg University, Katie grew in Bible study and discipleship through a campus ministry. Katie developed a passion for teaching others about Jesus through the scriptures. Katie and Timothy now co-lead the youth group along with the Williams’. They love seeing the student learn more about Jesus and interacting with the gospel. It’s so beautiful to see a life transformed by Christ. Katie and Timothy welcomed their daughter Joanna in January 2024. They are so excited to see her grow in the church and pray that she comes to know Jesus as her savior as well.

Starr Thurman is the Children’s Ministries Coordinator at First Baptist. She has been attending First Baptist since 1994 and serving in this position for approximately 15 years. Starr is married, the Mother of 2 and Grandmother of 3. She loves teaching and advocating for the next generation of Christ followers!

Terri has served as the Outreach director since 2013. Terri has a servant’s heart and is compassionate about helping those in need. One of Terri’s favorite bible verses is Matthew 9-37. Then He said to his disciples: “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” With the help of her church the Outreach ministry has collected items needed for the local community food bank, Frederick Rescue mission and Care Net Pregnancy Center. Terri lives with her husband Mark, and they have two biological sons, and an adopted daughter. Alexander Mark, Benjamin Joseph, and Cecilia Clair.
